ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- When the Denver Broncos signed defensive tackle Zach Allen in April 2023, they anticipated a high-motor, efficient lineman who could enhance their roster under newly-hired head coach Sean Payton. However, Allen has surpassed all expectations, evolving into a cornerstone of the Broncos' defense.

Two seasons later, Allen has earned second-team All-Pro honors and recently signed a four-year, $102 million extension, securing his role through the 2029 season. "Sometimes you sign someone and it's like -- 'Ahhh,'" Payton remarked. "We did our homework, and with Allen, it was more than we expected. That's great when that happens."

Allen's 2024 season was nothing short of spectacular, with career-highs in tackles (61), quarterback hits (40), sacks (8.5), and tackles for losses (15). His performance was pivotal in leading the NFL with 63 sacks. Allen's endurance was equally impressive, playing 89% of the Broncos' defensive snaps—a rare feat for a defensive lineman.

"I have an obsession about this," Allen said. "I love this. This is my life. I take a lot of pride in this. Every single day since the season ended, I've been finding ways to get better."

Allen credits his time with the Arizona Cardinals and working alongside three-time Defensive Player of the Year J.J. Watt as crucial to his development. Additionally, the presence of Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph, who was Allen's coordinator with the Cardinals, has been instrumental in his seamless transition to Denver.

"[Joseph] was a major reason why I came here," Allen said. "To have a guy like Vance believe in me year after year and help me day after day, he's been incredible."

The Broncos have further bolstered their defense by adding former 49ers standouts linebacker Dre Greenlaw and safety Talanoa Hufanga in free agency, and selecting cornerback Jahdae Barron in the first round of the draft. Allen is confident that these moves position the Broncos to compete with the AFC's elite.

"I just love what we're building here," Allen said. "This organization really has set me up for success. I have a lot of high goals for myself and this team, and I believe we can accomplish all of those here."

As the Broncos gear up for the 2025 season, Allen's leadership and performance will be critical in their quest for a Super Bowl title. With a top-tier defense and a culture of excellence, the Denver Broncos are poised for greatness.
