Jacob Umaga Joins Samoa: A New Chapter in International Rugby

Former Wasps fly-half Jacob Umaga, who earned his only senior England cap in 2021, has been called up by Samoa for the first time. This move comes after a change in World Rugby's rules in 2022, allowing players to represent a second nation after a three-year hiatus from the Test game.

Umaga, 26, has been playing for Benetton Treviso in Italy since Wasps went bust in 2022. His performance helped the team secure a 10th-place finish in the United Rugby Championship this season.

Born in Halifax, England, Umaga comes from a rich rugby heritage. His father, Mike Umaga, was a Samoa international who moved to England to play rugby league before switching to union for Rotherham. Jacob's uncle, Tana Umaga, is a legendary New Zealand centre.
