Wimbledon 2025 Day One: Raducanu, Alcaraz, and Boulter Lead the Charge in Scorching Heat

Wimbledon 2025 kicks off with British stars Raducanu, Alcaraz, and Boulter taking center stage on a scorching day at the All England Club.

The 138th Wimbledon Championships commenced on Monday with a sizzling start, both in terms of the action on the court and the soaring temperatures in south-west London, which reached a blistering 33°C. The day was marked by the presence of British tennis stars, with Emma Raducanu, Carlos Alcaraz, and Katie Boulter leading the charge on the show courts.

Carlos Alcaraz Opens on Centre Court Two-time defending men's champion Carlos Alcaraz began his campaign on Centre Court, as per Wimbledon tradition. The second seed faced off against 38-year-old Italian Fabio Fognini at 13:30 BST. Alcaraz, known for his dynamic play and court positioning, is aiming for a third consecutive title.

Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter in Action British fans had plenty to cheer for as Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter took to the courts. Raducanu, the 2021 US Open champion, faced an intriguing all-British tie against 17-year-old Mimi Xu on Court One. Meanwhile, Boulter, who has been in impressive form, squared off against Spanish ninth seed Paula Badosa on Centre Court.

Other British Players in the Mix The British contingent was well-represented across the grounds, with 14 home players in action on the opening day. Jacob Fearnley faced Brazilian teenager Joao Fonseca, while Harriet Dart took on Hungarian Dalma Galfi. Other notable matches included Cameron Norrie against Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut and Sonay Kartal versus Latvian Jelena Ostapenko.

Heat Adds to the Challenge The scorching heat added an extra layer of difficulty for the players, with temperatures soaring to 33°C. Hydration and endurance were key factors as players battled both their opponents and the elements.

Top Seeds and Rising Stars Women's world number one Aryna Sabalenka began her campaign on Court One against Canadian Carson Branstine. Other top seeds in action included Alexander Zverev, Madison Keys, and Taylor Fritz. Rising stars like 16-year-old Mika Stojsavljevic and Hannah Klugman also made their Wimbledon debuts, adding to the excitement of the day.

Broadcast and Coverage Fans could catch all the action live across BBC TV, radio, and online platforms, with extensive coverage on BBC iPlayer, Red Button, Connected TVs, and the mobile app. The day's play began at 11:00 BST and continued well into the evening.

As the first day of Wimbledon 2025 concluded, the stage was set for an exciting fortnight of tennis, with British players and global stars vying for glory on the hallowed grass courts of the All England Club.
