Gary Woodland Joins US Ryder Cup Team as Vice-Captain Post Brain Surgery Triumph

Gary Woodland, after a successful recovery from brain surgery, has been appointed as a vice-captain for the US Ryder Cup team, showcasing his resilience and leadership in golf.

Gary Woodland, a celebrated figure in the world of golf, has been appointed as the fifth and final vice-captain for the US Ryder Cup team. This marks a significant milestone in Woodland's career, especially considering his recent triumph over health challenges. Two years after undergoing brain surgery to remove a tumor, Woodland has not only returned to the sport but has also been recognized with the 2025 PGA Tour Courage Award.

Woodland will serve in a non-playing role under the captaincy of Keegan Bradley, who himself is on the verge of becoming the first playing captain since Arnold Palmer in 1963. The 45th Ryder Cup is set to take place at the Bethpage Black course in New York from September 25 to 28, 2025. Woodland's role is crucial as the US team aims to reclaim the trophy after a narrow defeat in the 2023 edition held in Rome.

In his statement, Woodland expressed his enthusiasm and commitment to the role, saying, "Keegan's passion for this event is contagious and I am thrilled to be a part of it. With just over two months to go until we arrive at Bethpage, I am fully committed to doing everything I can to help Keegan as well as our team of vice-captains and players."

Bradley also praised Woodland, highlighting his experience and leadership qualities. "I have an incredible amount of respect and admiration for Gary and all he has accomplished in this game. As a major champion and someone who is still competing at a high level, he is well aware of the demands of performing on golf's biggest stages. He will be a valuable leader for us over the coming months and throughout the 2025 Ryder Cup at Bethpage Black."

This appointment not only underscores Woodland's resilience but also his significant contribution to the sport, making him a key figure in the upcoming Ryder Cup.
