Nat Sciver-Brunt Leads England in Crucial ODI Series Against India Ahead of World Cup

England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt returns to lead the team in the ODI series against India, a key preparation for the upcoming Women's World Cup.

Nat Sciver-Brunt has made a significant return to the England squad for the upcoming one-day international (ODI) series against India, marking a pivotal moment as the team gears up for the 2025 Women's World Cup. The 32-year-old all-rounder, who recently took over the captaincy from Heather Knight, is recovering from a groin injury sustained during England's second T20 defeat to India on July 1st.

Sciver-Brunt missed the third T20 match and will also sit out the games at Old Trafford on July 12th. However, she is expected to feature in all three ODIs, starting with the first match at Southampton on July 16th. This series is crucial as it represents England's final ODI fixtures before the World Cup in India this autumn.

Coach Charlotte Edwards has also recalled Maia Bouchier, Lauren Filer, and Sophie Ecclestone to the squad. Ecclestone, who missed the previous series against West Indies to focus on her recovery from a quad injury, is back to strengthen the team's bowling attack. Edwards emphasized the importance of this series, stating, "This is the perfect preparation for the ICC Women's World Cup, but it's also a series we're determined to win."

England's recent performance in the T20 series saw a mix of results, with a five-run victory in the third match keeping the series alive after initial losses. The ODI squad features a blend of experienced players and emerging talents, including Tammy Beaumont, who will continue to lead in Sciver-Brunt's absence during the T20s.

England ODI Squad:

  • Em Arlott (Warwickshire)
  • Tammy Beaumont (The Blaze)
  • Lauren Bell (Hampshire)
  • Maia Bouchier (Hampshire)
  • Alice Capsey (Surrey)
  • Kate Cross (Lancashire)
  • Alice Davidson-Richards (Surrey)
  • Charlie Dean (Somerset)
  • Sophia Dunkley (Surrey)
  • Sophie Ecclestone (Lancashire)
  • Lauren Filer (Durham)
  • Amy Jones (The Blaze)
  • Emma Lamb (Lancashire)
  • Nat Sciver-Brunt (The Blaze; captain)
  • Linsey Smith (Hampshire)

This series not only serves as a critical preparation for the World Cup but also as an opportunity for England to assert their dominance in women's cricket on the global stage.
