Lewis Edmondson's Dream Night: A Historic Boxing Showdown at Wembley

Lewis Edmondson prepares for a monumental fight against Daniel Lapin at Wembley Stadium, aiming to showcase his best in a historic boxing event.

Lewis Edmondson is set to face Daniel Lapin in a highly anticipated boxing match at Wembley Stadium on 19 July 2025. This event is part of the undercard for the Oleksandr Usyk v Daniel Dubois fight, promising to be a night of high stakes and intense action.

Edmondson, the unbeaten British and Commonwealth light-heavyweight champion, expressed his excitement and readiness for the fight. "It's going to be a great night on a historic card," he told BBC Sport. "I'm proud to be part of it. As a little boy when I first walked into an amateur boxing gym, I used to dream about nights like this."

His opponent, Lapin, is also unbeaten and has been part of Usyk's promotional company, gaining experience from the heavyweight champion's training camp. Lapin has recently fought on significant cards in Saudi Arabia, securing knockout and unanimous decision wins.

Edmondson, who is 5 inches shorter than Lapin, is coming into this fight with the momentum of his first victory since claiming the British and Commonwealth light heavyweight titles in late 2024. He successfully defended his Commonwealth title against the previously unbeaten Oluwatosin Kejawa in March.

Despite a setback in negotiations for a fight against domestic rival Ezra Taylor, Edmondson seized the opportunity to appear on what is anticipated to be one of the year's biggest boxing events. "Lapin is an avoided fighter," Edmondson noted. "A lot of people turn this opportunity down, but not me. These kinds of fights are what I'm in boxing for."

Reflecting on his journey, Edmondson shared a poignant moment from his career. "To go from being in hospital with septicaemia, on death's door thinking I'd never box again, to fighting at Wembley Stadium, it is crazy. Sometimes you don't get the chance to look back enough, and I think it is important to appreciate the journey."

Edmondson's career has been marked by significant health challenges, including a life-threatening battle with septicaemia, which sidelined him for 18 months. However, his resilience and determination have brought him to this pivotal moment in his career.

As the fight approaches, Edmondson is focused on making history at Wembley. "There's going to be hundreds and thousands watching, it'll be insane," he said. "I think I've shown 10 percent of what I've got so far, I'm looking forward to showcasing my skills and showing what I can do. I'm going to be putting Southampton on the map, it'll be a historic night for the city because there is a massive win incoming for me."
