Noah Lyles Triumphs Over Olympic Champion Letsile Tebogo in Thrilling 200m Diamond League Showdown

Noah Lyles secures a stunning victory over Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo in the 200m at the Diamond League in Monaco, marking his impressive return to the track.

Noah Lyles made a remarkable comeback in the 200m at the Diamond League meet in Monaco, defeating Olympic champion Letsile Tebogo with a time of 19.88 seconds. This victory was particularly significant for Lyles, who had not competed in the 200m since the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where he finished third after testing positive for Covid-19.

Tebogo, who had set a world-leading time of 19.76 seconds at the previous Diamond League meet in Eugene, came in second with a time of 19.97 seconds. Despite his disappointment, Tebogo acknowledged the race as a learning experience, stating, "I now have an idea of what to work on."

Lyles, the Olympic 100m champion, expressed his joy at being healthy and competitive again. "It was a great race, I'm really glad to be healthy," he said. "This shows I'm still in the game. I put myself in the fire for that one coming back against Tebogo. But I didn't feel any pressure, I don't see any reason to put pressure on myself - that's what we love to do."

In other events, Sweden's Armando Duplantis won the men's pole vault with a height of 6.05m, narrowly missing the world record of 6.28m. Kenya's Emmanuel Wanyonyi set a world-leading time of 1:41.44 in the men's 800m, while Dutchwoman Femke Bol impressed in the 400m hurdles with a world-leading time of 51.95, beating Americans Dalilah Muhammad and Anna Cockrell.

St Lucia's Julien Alfred dominated the women's 100m, winning with a time of 10.79 seconds. The next Diamond League event will be held in London on 19 July, with the finals scheduled for Zurich on 27 and 28 August, just before the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
