Aimee Maguire Cleared to Bowl After Successful Remedial Action

Ireland's Aimee Maguire has been cleared to resume bowling after successfully remedying her action, following an ICC assessment.

Ireland's young cricket sensation, Aimee Maguire, has been given the green light to resume her bowling career in international cricket. The 18-year-old spinner was previously suspended in February after her bowling action was deemed illegal during Ireland's one-day international against India in Rajkot on January 10.

Maguire underwent a comprehensive bowling assessment at the ICC-accredited testing centre in Loughborough, England, on January 21. The assessment revealed that her elbow extension exceeded the permissible 15-degree level, leading to her suspension. However, after months of rigorous remedial work and a re-assessment, the ICC confirmed that her bowling action now complies with the regulations.

"An independent assessment of Maguire's remodelled bowling action at an ICC accredited testing centre concluded that the amount of elbow extension was within the 15-degree level," the ICC stated.

Maguire, who made her international debut in 2023, has already earned 20 caps for Ireland, taking 25 wickets across various formats. Ireland captain Gaby Lewis expressed her confidence in Maguire's ability to bounce back. "It's a huge relief for her and management, they worked so hard over the last seven or eight months to work on her action and the mental side of things," Lewis said. "She has worked so hard and is in a great place now and just needs some games behind her."

Despite her clearance, Maguire will not be part of Ireland's squad for the upcoming three-match T20 series against Pakistan, which begins in Dublin on Wednesday.
