GB Flag Football Team Eyes Fifth Place After Medal Hopes Shattered at World Games
Great Britain's flag football team aims for fifth place after a tough loss to Austria in the World Games quarter-finals, marking their debut in the global multi-sport event.

Great Britain's aspirations for a medal in women's flag football at their inaugural World Games appearance were thwarted by a 40-28 defeat to Austria in the quarter-finals. Austria, ranked fourth globally, demonstrated their prowess against the fifth-ranked GB team.
Despite the setback, the European champions bounced back in a ranking game against Italy, securing a thrilling 35-28 victory in overtime. This win sets up a crucial match against host nation China, with fifth place at stake.
The World Games, a platform for sports not yet included in the Olympics, is a pivotal event for GB's development, especially with flag football set to debut at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. GB's qualification for the World Games followed their seventh-place finish at the Flag Football World Championships last year.
In their quarter-final clash, GB scored four touchdowns, with Emily Kemp contributing all of them. However, Austria's early lead and consistent performance proved insurmountable. Against Italy, GB showcased resilience, overcoming a halftime deficit to clinch victory, thanks to quarterback Jessica Allen's five touchdown passes.
As the tournament progresses, Austria faces USA in the semi-finals, while Canada and Mexico prepare for their respective matches. GB's focus now shifts to their upcoming game against China, aiming to conclude their World Games journey on a high note.
