Premier League Shatters Transfer Record with Leeds' Signing of Noah Okafor

Leeds United's £18m signing of Noah Okafor from AC Milan pushes Premier League summer spending to a historic £2.37bn, breaking the previous record.

Leeds United have made a significant move in the transfer market by securing the services of AC Milan striker Noah Okafor for £18m. This acquisition has propelled the total spending by Premier League clubs this summer to an unprecedented £2.37bn, surpassing the previous record set in the summer of 2023.

Okafor, a 25-year-old Swiss international, has signed a four-year deal with Leeds, marking the club's ninth signing since their promotion to the Premier League. The striker, who previously played for Basel and RB Salzburg, joined Milan in 2023 and scored seven goals in 54 appearances before ending last season on loan at Napoli.

The Biggest Transfer Window Ever

According to data from FootballTransfers.com, Okafor's arrival at Elland Road has contributed to the record-breaking £2.37bn spent by Premier League clubs this summer. Six clubs have broken their own transfer records during this window, highlighting the competitive nature of the league.

  • Brentford completed a deal worth up to £42.5m for Burkina Faso forward Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth.
  • Burnley and Sunderland invested £25m and £26m respectively in French midfielder Lesley Ugochukwu and Senegal midfielder Habib Diarra.
  • Nottingham Forest broke their transfer record twice, first for Swiss winger Dan Ndoye and then for Omari Hutchison from Ipswich for £37.5m.

In June, Liverpool made headlines by signing Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen for a guaranteed £100m, with potential add-ons that could make it the most expensive British transfer ever.

With 10 days remaining in the transfer window, it is anticipated that the spending spree will continue, potentially setting an even larger record.
