Sean Strickland Faces Six-Month Ban Following Cage Brawl at MMA Event
Former UFC champion Sean Strickland has been suspended for six months after a cage brawl at a Las Vegas MMA event. Learn more about the incident and its consequences.

Former UFC champion Sean Strickland has been handed a six-month suspension following his involvement in a chaotic brawl at a mixed martial arts (MMA) event in Las Vegas on 29 June 2025. The incident occurred during a Tuff-N-Uff event where Strickland, 34, was serving as a cornerman for Miles Hunsinger.
The Incident
Strickland reacted aggressively after Luis Hernandez taunted Hunsinger following their middleweight fight. Cameras captured Strickland throwing punches at Hernandez, escalating the situation into a full-blown melee. Fellow UFC fighter Chris Curtis was also involved in the altercation.
Consequences
The Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) issued Strickland a six-month ban and a fine of £3,730 ($5,000) plus legal fees. However, the suspension could be reduced to four-and-a-half months if Strickland completes an anger management course. Curtis, on the other hand, was fined £1,860 but avoided suspension.
NSAC's Response
NSAC chairman Dallas Haun acknowledged Strickland's immediate apology, stating it facilitated a swift resolution. "He apologised for his behaviour," Haun said. "We appreciate someone stepping up, owning something, and then a resolution could be come to quickly and with all parties in agreement."
Strickland's Controversial Past
Strickland is no stranger to controversy, often making inflammatory remarks on topics like women's rights and dismissing women's MMA as unwatchable. His last fight was in February 2025, where he suffered a one-sided loss to then-UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis.
Looking Ahead
The suspension is set to end on 29 December 2025, pending the completion of the anger management course. This incident adds another chapter to Strickland's tumultuous career, raising questions about his future in the sport.
