Keyshawn Davis vs. Edwin De Los Santos Fight Cancelled Due to Weight Miss: What Happened and What's Next

Keyshawn Davis' fight against Edwin De Los Santos was cancelled after Davis missed weight by 4.3 pounds, leading to the WBO title being stripped and negotiations failing.

The highly anticipated boxing match between Keyshawn Davis and Edwin De Los Santos was abruptly cancelled after Davis failed to make weight, missing the 135-pound limit by 4.3 pounds. The fight, scheduled for Saturday night at Scope Arena in Norfolk, Virginia, was set to be the main event with Davis defending his WBO lightweight title. However, the weight miss led to Davis being stripped of the title, leaving De Los Santos as the only fighter eligible to win the championship.

According to Sampson Lewkowicz, De Los Santos' promoter, the two sides engaged in lengthy negotiations to salvage the fight. "We renegotiated 10 pounds, plus money, but we concluded that Davis never tried to make weight," Lewkowicz told ESPN. "He came dancing to the scale. I didn't want what happened to [Devin] Haney and [Ryan] Garcia to happen. We canceled the fight."

Lewkowicz referenced the infamous Ryan Garcia vs. Devin Haney bout in April 2024, where Garcia missed weight and later tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug, resulting in the fight being declared a no-contest.

With the main event cancelled, Abdullah Mason's lightweight fight against Jeremia Nakathila has been elevated to the headliner. Additionally, Kelvin Davis, Keyshawn's older brother, will now face Nahir Albright in the co-main event.

This incident highlights the importance of discipline and preparation in professional boxing, and serves as a reminder of the consequences of failing to meet weight requirements. Fans and promoters alike will be watching closely to see how both fighters move forward from this setback.
