Walker's Emotional AC Milan Move: From Man City Tears to Euro 2024 Ambitions

England defender Kyle Walker reveals emotional struggles after AC Milan loan move from Manchester City, reflecting on club relationships and international ambitions.

Kyle Walker's Emotional Transition to Serie A

Manchester City defender Kyle Walker has opened up about his emotional departure from the Etihad Stadium during his January loan move to AC Milan, describing how the farewell brought him to tears.

The Painful Goodbye

The 33-year-old England international became visibly emotional when discussing his final moments at City's training complex:

"The lady there, Emma, who would be behind the counter and serve you food - even when I looked over at her, I wanted to cry," Walker revealed on his podcast. "Every day I've given her a morning cuddle, and suddenly I'm not going to see her anymore."

Why Milan Came Calling

Key factors in Walker's decision:

  • Reduced playing time under Pep Guardiola
  • Desire to maintain England squad fitness for Euro 2024
  • Opportunity to experience Serie A football
  • Chase for 100 international caps (currently at 95)

International Ambitions

Walker emphasized his determination to become only the second black English player to reach 100 caps after Ashley Cole:

"It was crucial I stayed in Europe," Walker explained. "I had direct conversations with England manager Tuchel about maintaining my international prospects."

City Legacy

The right-back leaves England having won:

  • 4 Premier League titles
  • 4 EFL Cups
  • 2 FA Cups
  • 1 Champions League
  • 2 Community Shields

What Next?

With his City contract running through 2026, Walker's Milan loan could become permanent if he impresses in Serie A. His immediate focus remains helping Milan while preparing for England's Euro 2024 campaign.
