Julen Lopetegui has taken on a new role as the head coach of the Qatar national team. The 58-year-old Spaniard's deal lasts until 2027 and includes the ongoing qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup. Qatar failed to secure a spot in the initial qualification stage for next year's finals but still has a chance. Lopetegui has a diverse coaching background, having worked with Spain and various clubs.

He had a short tenure at Real Madrid and Sevilla. His time at West Ham ended after six months with only six league wins.
