Intense Action on Stage 16

Tarling's Unfortunate Exit

Josh Tarling, the 21-year-old Welshman, was part of a seven-rider breakaway that had established a 30-second lead over the peloton. However, tragedy struck early in the stage when Tarling slid on a wet surface and crashed heavily into a barrier. Italy's Christian Scaroni emerged victorious in Stage 16, breaking clear on the final climb with his XDS Astana team-mate Lorenzo Fortunato, who took second place. Meanwhile, Isaac del Toro managed to cling on to the leader's pink jersey, albeit with a drastically reduced lead. Britain's Simon Yates and Richard Carapaz made significant moves, with Carapaz launching a powerful attack late in the stage to leave Del Toro and Yates behind.
