Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii Ready to Dominate Against the British and Irish Lions

Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii is set to face the British and Irish Lions this summer, fully recovered from jaw surgery and ready to make a significant impact for the Wallabies.

Australia's star recruit, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii, has confirmed his readiness to take on the British and Irish Lions this summer, despite recent jaw surgery that posed significant challenges. The 21-year-old, who made a high-profile switch from rugby league to union, is eager to showcase his skills in this highly anticipated series.

Recovery and Preparation

Suaalii underwent surgery three weeks ago after fracturing his jaw in a collision with Waratahs' teammate Andrew Kellaway. The injury initially raised concerns about his availability for the Lions tour, but Suaalii is now confident in his recovery.

"Yeah, I'll be fully fit for the Lions," Suaalii stated, estimating his recovery at 97%. "It's such an important time for myself and Australian rugby, and I want to be playing. I was a bit nervous, but the surgery went well, and I'm looking good going into the Lions."

The young star also shared the difficulties he faced post-surgery, including wearing a face mask to hide his swollen face and struggling to eat, which led to a 5kg weight loss. However, with the support of his family, Suaalii has regained his strength and is back on track.

Versatility and Confidence

Suaalii's versatility is one of his greatest assets. Initially playing at outside centre after switching codes, he has recently been deployed at full-back for the Waratahs, earning a spot in the Super Rugby Pacific team of 2025.

"It makes you a better rugby player, seeing the game from a different perspective always helps you," Suaalii explained. "I am very confident in playing wing, centre, and full-back."

Looking Ahead

Suaalii is targeting a return to action in the Wallabies' warm-up Test against Fiji on 6 July. The Tests against the Lions are scheduled for 19 and 26 July and 2 August, kicking off at 11:00 BST. Suaalii's readiness and determination will be crucial as Australia aims to make a strong impression in this prestigious series.

Focus on Team Success

Despite the personal duel that emerged between him and Scotland centre Sione Tuipulotu during the Wallabies' defeat at Murrayfield, Suaalii remains focused on team success.

"I am really just focused on what I can bring best for the team," Suaalii said. "Anyone in the Lions, I am ready to go against them."

With his recovery on track and his versatility on display, Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii is poised to be a key player for the Wallabies as they face the British and Irish Lions this summer.
