Rising Star Charlie Huntingford Aims for Podium Glory After Overcoming Adversity

16-year-old Charlie Huntingford returns to Snetterton, aiming for his first career podium after a serious crash last year.

Charlie Huntingford, a 16-year-old aspiring MotoGP racer from Debenham, Suffolk, is back at Snetterton with a mission. After suffering a devastating crash last year that left him with a broken leg, Huntingford is determined to turn his fortunes around and secure his first career podium finish.

Huntingford, who has been racing since the age of seven, is no stranger to the challenges of motorsport. He has competed in the MotoGP feeder series and the British Talent Cup, where he has reached speeds of up to 170mph on faster tracks. Despite the setback, his passion for racing remains undiminished.

"This time last year, unfortunately, I broke my leg, but up to that point, I was doing really well - I was top five and then in second just before the injury," Huntingford recalled. "Going into Snetterton, I really want to kick-start my season, get a bit of revenge on the track that caught me out last year."

Huntingford's dedication to his craft is evident. He wakes up at 5:00 AM to train, and his focus is unwavering. "I've been racing since I was seven years old, so it's just normal. It's embedded in my DNA. All I think about is motorbikes," he said. "When sat in an exam this morning, all I could think about was getting out on my bike this afternoon. Everything I focus on is racing, pushbikes, anything with two wheels."

Managed by his father, Simon Huntingford, who also runs a motorcycle business, Charlie has a strong support system. Simon juggles the roles of team manager and father, providing both technical and emotional support. "I respect him as a rider, and hopefully he respects me as a team manager, but I have to be a dad when it needs that emotional support," Simon said. "When your son's that passionate about something and he's good at it, why would you stop him?"

Team Huntingford is aiming for a maiden podium, which Charlie described as "awesome," while his father added that there "would be tears." For Charlie, a podium finish would be the culmination of years of hard work and dedication. "It would mean the world, especially as I got injured there last year, so I'm really hungry for it. I'm going to do it," he declared.

Follow Charlie Huntingford's journey as he strives to make his mark in the world of motorsport, proving that resilience and determination can overcome even the toughest challenges.
