Glenn Irwin Aims for August Comeback After Snetterton Crash
British Superbike rider Glenn Irwin targets an August return after recovering from a severe crash at Snetterton, aiming for podium finishes and wins.

Glenn Irwin, the seasoned British Superbike rider, is setting his sights on an August return to the track following a harrowing crash at Snetterton in June. The 35-year-old suffered significant injuries, including fractures to his hip socket and pelvis, but his recovery is progressing ahead of schedule, much to the delight of his fans and team.
The Incident and Immediate Aftermath
Irwin's crash occurred during a free practice session at the third round of the series. Despite the severity of the incident, he managed to avoid more catastrophic outcomes. "I made a mistake, ran a little bit wide on the left-hander before Turn Nine and that resulted in a huge high-side," Irwin recounted. He also mentioned that his brother, Andrew Irwin, narrowly missed him by just two inches, which could have led to a much graver situation.
Road to Recovery
Post-crash, Irwin underwent surgery on his sacrum and has been on a rigorous recovery path. Initially, he feared that his season might be over, but his medical team has been pleasantly surprised by the pace of his recovery. "I was meant to be six weeks non-weight bearing but we're already ahead of the game," Irwin shared. He has already resumed gym training and is cycling and swimming, which are crucial steps towards his return to competitive racing.
Targeted Comeback
Irwin is optimistic about returning for the Cadwell Park races in Lincolnshire on 23-25 August. However, he hasn't ruled out an earlier comeback at the Thruxton round in Hampshire from 8-10 August. "Thruxton is maybe a good one to come back for. It's quite a relaxed track to ride at," he noted. His primary goal is to secure podium finishes and possibly a win before the season concludes.
Looking Ahead
Irwin's determination and positive outlook have been pivotal in his recovery journey. "The progress has been huge and I'm excited now as I see a goal in front of me," he said. Fans and fellow riders alike are eagerly anticipating his return, hoping to see him back in top form and competing for victories.
