Gina Carano Settles Legal Battle with Disney Over Mandalorian Firing: A New Chapter Begins
Former MMA fighter Gina Carano settles her lawsuit with Disney over her dismissal from The Mandalorian, marking a new chapter in her career.

Actress and former MMA fighter Gina Carano has reached a settlement with Disney and Lucasfilm following her controversial firing from the Star Wars spin-off series, The Mandalorian. Carano, who portrayed the character Cara Dune, was removed from the cast in 2021 after making contentious social media comments.
Carano announced the settlement on X, expressing her hope that it would bring "some healing to the force." The details of the agreement remain undisclosed, but it comes after Carano's case garnered significant support, including funding from tech billionaire Elon Musk.
In her statement, Carano described the settlement as the "best outcome for all parties involved" and expressed her eagerness to "flip the page and move onto the next chapter." She also extended her gratitude to Musk, referring to his support as a "Good Samaritan deed."
Carano had initially sued for wrongful termination and sexual discrimination, alleging that male co-stars who made similar posts faced no repercussions. She sought $75,000 in damages and aimed to be reinstated in the series. Lucasfilm had previously condemned her comments for "denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities."
In a post-settlement statement, Lucasfilm praised Carano as a respected professional who was "always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff." The company also expressed its interest in identifying future opportunities to collaborate.
Carano's career has been marked by both her achievements in mixed martial arts and her controversial public statements, including her criticism of mask-wearing policies during the COVID-19 pandemic and false claims about voter fraud in the 2020 US presidential election.
This settlement marks a significant moment in Carano's career, offering her a chance to move forward and explore new opportunities in the entertainment industry.
