Thurles Racecourse to Host Full Season of Horse Racing Until March 2026
Thurles Racecourse will resume its horse racing schedule on October 9, 2025, and continue through March 2026, with Horse Racing Ireland taking operational control.

Thurles Racecourse has announced the resumption of its horse racing events starting Thursday, October 9, 2025, with plans to complete all 11 fixtures scheduled through March 2026. This decision comes after a recent meeting between the Molony family, owners of the racecourse, and Horse Racing Ireland (HRI), which resulted in a reversal of the earlier closure announcement made on August 1, 2025.
A joint statement from Horse Racing Ireland and Thurles Race Company confirmed that HRI will assume operational responsibility for the racecourse until the end of the planned schedule. This move aims to provide all stakeholders with the necessary time to develop a longer-term strategy for the venue.
"Following a positive meeting this afternoon between Horse Racing Ireland and the Molony family, Thurles Race Company will facilitate the continuation of horse racing at Thurles Racecourse until March 2026, with operational responsibility of the racecourse passing to Horse Racing Ireland," the statement read.
This agreement was made possible through the collaboration of the Association of Irish Racecourses, the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB), and the broader support of the horse racing industry. The resumption of events ensures that Thurles Racecourse will host its remaining fixtures as planned, starting with the scheduled event on October 9, 2025.
