The 2025 January transfer window has set new benchmarks in football, with the Premier League and Women's Super League at the forefront of this financial surge. According to a FIFA report, global spending hit an all-time high of nearly £1.9bn, with English clubs contributing significantly to this figure.

Men's Game:

• Premier League Spending: English clubs accounted for over a quarter of the total spending in the men's game, with a whopping £498m spent on transfers. Manchester City led the charge, investing approximately £190m in new talents including Omar Marmoush, Vitor Reis, Abdukodir Khusanov, and Nico Gonzalez.
• Global Spending: German clubs followed with £237m, trailed by Italy (£178m), France (£167m), and Saudi Arabia (£162m). The overall spending in the men's game was nearly 20% higher than the previous record set in January 2024.

Women's Game:

• Record-Breaking Transfers: The women's game saw a staggering 180.6% increase in spending, totaling £4.65m. Chelsea made headlines by signing American defender Naomi Girma for £900,000 from San Diego Wave, setting a new world record. They also acquired Barcelona midfielder Keira Walsh for £460,000.
• International Spending: French clubs were the next biggest spenders (£860,000), followed by the United States (£702,000) and Germany (£298,000).
